IAML Japanese Branch
IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres) Japanese Branch was founded in 1979 to accomplish at the national level such tasks as its parent organization undertakes internationally, and to support the activities of IAML. The Japanese Branch organizes an annual general meeting, regular meetings twice a year and publishes Newsletter two times a year, mainly written in Japanese.

This lecture will examine how the model is shaping the development of library cataloging, with insights from university libraries in the United States.

Speaker: Ms. Rieko Suenaga (TOYAMA Kazuyuki Memorial Archives of Modern Japanese Music, Meiji Gakuin University Library)
Summary: The TOYAMA Kazuyuki Memorial Archives of Moder Japanese Music (https://www.meijigakuin.ac.jp/library/amjm/)are research archives for modern and contemporary music in Japan. In July 2010, the archives received a donation of books and music materials from the Japan Modern Music Foundation. They opened in May 2011 as an affiliated Meiji Gakuin University Library institution to contribute to promoting music culture through research and educational support. More than a decade after its opening, the archives' current operation and services will be introduced from the perspectives of collecting, organizing, and creating search tools for historical materials, preserving and digitizing autographs and microforms, and cooperating with other institutions.

What is IAML?
The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) currently has about 1,450 individual and institutional members in around 40 countries throughout the world. Founded in 1951 to promote international cooperation and to support the interests of the profession, IAML is a respected member of the international library and music communities. It has national branches in 26 countries, five institutional sections, four subject sections and various project groups, and is responsible for several large-scale documentation projects.
The mission of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) is to broaden access to music resources through international collaboration and advocacy, to support research, learning, performance and enjoyment. Our members open up the vast world of information and repertoire in their daily interactions with students, educators, researchers, musicians, and the general public. We work to promote and preserve musical heritage among diverse cultures as we recognise the importance of music in the lives of the world’s people.

IAML Japanese Branch Activities
IAML consists of headquarters and national branches. Currently, there are branches in 26 countries, and the Japanese Branch is one of them.
The branches are currently concentrated in Europe and North America, and except for Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Japan, they do not exist in Asian, South American, and African countries, and participation from these regions is awaited.
IAML consists of individual members and institutional members. Those who join the Japanese Branch automatically become members of the headquarters. Anyone interested in IAML's activities related to music materials can become a member, including librarians, curators, musicologists, those involved in publishing and distribution, students, and anyone else. In addition to individuals, companies and institutional organizations can also become members.
The IAML Japanese Branch holds the following meetings:

| Executive Board Meeting | Three times a year | Operated by elected officers. |
Branch officers are elected in elections held once every three years.
Regular meetings are planned and operated by the officers in charge of meetings, and are sometimes open to the public.
We also publish a newsletter three times a year and update our website from time to time.

How to Become a Member
IAML Japanese Branch recruits both institutional members such as music libraries, music archives, research institutions, and universities, as well as individual members.

Membership Categories and Annual Fees
The validity period of our membership is one year (January 1 to December 31), the same as our fiscal year.
Membership fees are determined as follows:
- Institutional Member ¥14,000
- Individual Member ¥6,000
Membership always begins from January 1 of that year.
Even if you apply for membership during the year, your membership will be retroactive to January 1.
There is no discount for mid-year membership.
Even for mid-year membership, you must pay the full annual membership fee for that year.

The IAML Japanese Branch "Friends" is a system where individuals other than branch members who support the branch's objectives can support the branch through donations and receive certain benefits. Friends registration applications can be made through the form at the bottom of this page.
Friends Benefits
The support fee paid by Friends is 3,000 yen per year. Friends benefits are as follows:
- Participation in branch events (excluding general meetings).
- Access to the latest branch online newsletter.
- Visiting use of consenting institutional members.
