IAML Japanese Branch was founded in 1979 to accomplish at the national level such tasks as its parent organization undertakes internationally, and to support the activities of IAML.

The Japanese Branch organizes an annual general meeting, regular meetings twice a year and publishes Newsletter three times a year, mainly written in Japanese. To exchange information and ideas and share them with members in other countries, it makes efforts to give short news quickly and in good timing in this English Version.

In 1988, the Branch hosted International Annual Conference. It took place in Tokyo University of the Arts from the 4th September to the 9th September. 54 members from 18 countries abroad and 96 Japanese members are participants. You can see photos of the conference to find its friendly atmosphere.

After the conference, Tokyo, some foreign members visited Japan and participated with our meetings, gave short messages, held lectures etc. If members from abroad have the chance to visit Asian countries, especially Japan, please, make contact with the secretary of the Japanese Branch. We cordially invite all colleagues to participate with our study meetings or hold an intimate sessions.

If the Asian colleagues have the intention to learn and work together with Japanese members, feel free not only to inquire us but to give us interesting proposals.

In 2016, the Japanese Branch has 79 members (59 individuals, 20 institutions). Some old members withdrew. But we got young new members. The Japanese Branch tries now to encourage them to play the important role in the near future.
